Secure Covers – the simple way to save silage

The Secure Cover is placed over the polythene silage sheet and requires weighting only at the edges and joins. Secure Covers' special construction ensures that silage sheet remains in place on the silage pit by dispersing wind gusts.

Secure Covers also maintains the silage sheet in close contact with the silage surface, helping to prevent bird damage of the silage sheet and preventing birds from feeding on the silage.

Fitting Secure Covers

Fit Secure Covers in sections along the length of the clamp, from side to side of the clamp, so that they can be rolled back as the clamp is fed. Measure the clamp's width making allowances for the hump.

Use the table of Secure Cover sizes on the right to calculate the lengths and number of sections required. Remember to allow approximately 0.5m for each overlap between sections.

Secure Gravel Bags

Secure Gravel Bags are used to hold the Secure Covers in place. Secure Gravel bags should be partially filled, with 2cm pea gravel or stone, to 25-30cm from the top and then zip-tied - about 10-15cm from the top - with the heavy-duty cable ties provided. This helps to ensure that the Secure Gravel bags maintain flexibility to seal the silage clamp and prevent bursting should the bag be dropped. Secure Gravel Bags are placed 'nose to tail' around the edge of each Secure Cover and where the Secure Covers overlap.

Secure Gravel Bags are sold in packs of 20 and are made from the same strong and fray resistant material as Secure Covers. Each gravel bag has an integral handle to make moving the bags a simple task even when filled. Each bag weighs between 15-20 kg when filled with pea gravel.
